Hamburg, one of the 12 venues of 2006 Germany World Cup, is building a special temporary jail to detain football hooligans during the World Cup.

The facility, being outfitted like those in the Hamburg's main police station, will be able to hold up to 150 prisoners for no more than two weeks in jail, police spokesman Marco Haase said Tuesday.

"We want a peaceful World Cup and we hope that these rooms aren't going to be necessary," Haase said.

The jail is expected to cost Hamburg 3.8 million euros as part of the overall 8.8-million-euro security budget for the city.

Five of the 64 World Cup games are to be played in Hamburg as the World Cup runs from June 9-July 9.
