Jordanian King Abdullah II affirmed Thursday in Amman the kingdom's support to Lebanon's ongoing national dialogue, saying the dialogue is a "main step" towards enhancing the country's solidarity and stability.

In a meeting with visiting UN envoy Terry Rod Larsen, King Abdullah stressed that it is necessary to respect Lebanon's independence and not to interfere in its internal affairs.

He also called on all parties in Lebanon to cooperate with the International Investigation Committee on the assassination of former Lebanese prim minister Rafik al-Hariri.

Lebanon's rival politicians on March 2 started a national dialogue conference in the parliament with the participation of leaders from some 14 political parties, including pro- and anti- Syrian Muslim and Christian parties.

Three major issues, namely the international probe into the Hariri killing, implementation of UN Resolution 1559 which calls for the disarmament of Hizbollah and Palestinian militias in Lebanon and Lebanese-Syrian relations, have been among the top topics during the dialogue.
