Finland grants mobile phone TV operating licence to Digita
font size

The Finnish Government on Thursday granted the operating licence for mobile television broadcasts and services to Digita, the country's leading distributor of radio and television services.

Finland will be the first country in Europe to open a commercial mobile phone television network. Digita Co. intends to start commercial operations using the existing network this year.

Mobile phone television is an innovative new technology which makes it possible to use the mobile phones to watch TV and videos, play games or use other interactive services.

By using the mobile phone network, content providers in Finland will be the first to develop new multimedia services and businesses.

The mobile phone television network will use DVB-H technology, and the operating licence will cover the entire country with a validity period of 20 years.
