Angola registers 652 cholera cases, 22 deaths

The Angolan province of Luanda has reported 652 cumulative cases and 22 deaths since the declaration of the cholera outbreak on February 13.

According to a communique published by the office of the World Health Organization (WHO) here on Friday, in the last 24 hours, 101 new cases including 4 deaths have been reported in 8 municipalities affected by cholera.

Up to date, the National Laboratory of Public Health had confirmed the isolation of Vibrio cholera 01 serotype INABA in 9 out of 13 samples from patients.

The Angolan Ministry of Health, WHO and other partners continue to develop field activities to contain the further outbreak of cholera.
