Saraya al-Quds, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for firing homemade rockets toward the Israeli town of Ashkelon.
The group said in a press statement that its militants fired three homemade rockets at the Israeli town and returned to their base safely.
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip landed in open fields south of Ashkelon, causing no casualties or damages.
The report added that five more rockets had been fired this morning from Gaza to Israel.
"The shelling came in response to the continued crimes of the Israeli occupation authority against the Palestinian people," the Palestinian militant group said, vowing to persist with armed resistance.
Resistance is the only choice in confronting the Zionist violence against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, the group said.
Israeli tanks stationed on the borders between northern Gaza and Israel responded to the homemade rocket attack by firing artillery shells at empty unpopulated areas, Palestinian security sources reported.
Saraya al-Quds also claimed responsibility for attacking Ashkelon on Tuesday night with a Russian-made Katyusha rocket whose range is much longer than homemade rocket.
Israeli army sources confirmed that for the first time Katyusha rocket was fired by the Palestinian militants from northern Gaza Strip into Israel.
