Russia to supply electricity to China in large scale
font size

A large-scale cross-border electricity supply agreement has been signed by Russia and China, according to sources of the State Grid Corporation of China.

According to the agreement, Russia will provide electricity to China in three stages.

The first stage is the construction of a 220-kilovolt direct current transmission project which could deliver 3.6-4.3 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to China's Heilongjiang Province a year when it is completed by 2008.

And by 2010, a 500-kilovolt direct current transmission line that will provide 16.5-18 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually for China's Liaoning Province will be built.

The last stage, to be completed by 2015, will be an 800-kilovolt line that could send 38 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to Northeast or North China a year.

Meanwhile, China is also cooperating with Kazakstan, Mongolia and other neighboring countries for electricity supply.

According to reports, Russia's current installed electric power generation capacity reaches 0.2167 billion kilowatts and the Far East Russia and Siberia's power supply are excessive.
