A three-dimensional digital model has been made for the terracotta warriors and horses, the historic relics that once guarded the tomb of China's First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty (211 B.C.-207B.C.), in China's northwestern Shaanxi Province.
"We made the digital model of the No. 2 pit, whose wooden coverings have been conserved well," said Wu Yongqi, curator of the Emperor Qin's Terracotta Museum.
The modeling uses two three-dimensional laser scan systems, which cover every corner of the pit with high definition, Wu said.
The digitalized storage of the information of the No. 2 pit makes it possible to rebuild the heritage site in future and makes it easy for researchers to acquire information about it, according to Wu.
The digital modeling, which began in 2005, is a cooperative project between the museum and a local aerial survey and remote sensing center.
