Turkey supports UN Security Council statement on Iran's nuclear file
font size

Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that Turkey supported the UN Security Council's presidential statement calling on Iran to freeze all uranium enrichment-related activities.

The ministry urged Iran in a statement to heed the Security Council's statement and fulfill its responsibilities.

In addition, the statement called on Tehran to have a full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over its nuclear program.

"Iran's abiding by the IAEA's decision will contribute to solution of the problem through peaceful means," added the ministry.

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a presidential statement on Wednesday, calling on Iran to resume suspension of all uranium enrichment-related activities and asking the IAEA to report in 30 days on Iran's cooperation with the agency's demands.

Iran resumed nuclear fuel enrichment research in January and the IAEA reported the Iranian nuclear file to the UN Security Council in early March.

Tehran has insisted on the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, denying Washington's charge of secret nuclear weapon ambitions.
