A suicide attack aimed at Afghan and U.S. troops in southern Kandahar province Saturday left the bomber dead, Corps Commander of southern region confirmed.
"Afghan and coalition troops were coming to Kandahar from Sangin district of Helmand province this afternoon when a man driving a Corolla detonated his car, killing himself but causing no damage on troops," Rahmatullah Raofi told Xinhua.
Raofi added that law-enforcing agencies have arrested another suicide bomber from the area who was trying to run way on motorbike.
It is the fifth suicide bomb attack in Kandahar, the former stronghold of Taliban, since last week.
A suicide attacker targeting Afghan National Army (ANA) convoy exploded himself Friday morning in Kandahar, but caused no casualty except himself.
Another suicide bomb attack that shocked Kandahar province Thursday morning left the bomber dead and injured seven others, including a woman and two children.
Kandahar and surrounding areas, the birthplace of Taliban, witnessed increasing violent attacks since the new year. Some 200 people, including 13 Americans and three Canadians, have lost their lives in Taliban-linked insurgency.
