U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw arrived in Baghdad on a surprised visit on Sunday, a British embassy spokeswoman said.

"I can confirm that Mrs. Rice and Mr. Straw have arrived in Baghdad," a spokeswoman told Xinhua by telephone.

The two foreign secretaries are due to meet Iraqi political leaders to discuss the progress of Iraq's political process, she said.
