It still remains unsure whether Indonesia's world and Olympic champion Taufik can join his country's Thomas Cup squad and participate in the men's event due to the injury on his waist, local media reported here on Wednesday.
"We have no choice but to field Taufik. we can't take the risk of deploying our second best single's player, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, as the first singles to face stronger rivals like Lin Dan and Bao Chunlai (of China)," the Jakarta Post quoted Sutiyoso, Chairman of the Badminton Association of Indonesia as saying.
however, 25-year-old Taufik told reporters here on Tuesday that "I haven't fully recovered. I am still in the recovery process from my waist injury. I hope the next 20 days will be enough time for me to recover."
In addition, his orthopedist Nicolaas Budiparama told local media that "what we can do is undergo a special training program, under the combined supervision of coaches and doctors, to prevent the injury from getting worse."
Taufik suffered the injury during his practice on March 15. The injury forced him to miss the just-concluded Asian Badminton Championships in Johor Baru, Malaysia.
