Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ismail Haneya on Friday condemned an Israeli airstrike on the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, in which six Palestinians were killed.
"This is a real crime and it can not be justified. This issue was discussed in my meeting with the prime minister," Abbas told reporters after a meeting with Haneya.
For his part, Haneya said, "What happened is really escalation against our people and institutions."
"We call on the United Nations and the quartet to help stop this escalation against the Palestinian people on their lands," he said.
Earlier in the day, an Israeli drone fired two rockets at a training camp of the Popular Resistance Committees, one of Palestinian armed groups, killing six Palestinians and injuring 15.
Palestinian security sources and witnesses said that the commander of the group in Rafah was killed together with his young daughter, in addition to four militants of the group.
