Iran condemns bombing attacks on Baghdad mosque
font size

Iran on Friday strongly condemned as a "savage act" three simultaneous bombing attacks on a Shiite mosque in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"The occupiers' misconduct in Iraq has created not only instability and unrest in the country, but also has turned Iraq into a safe heaven for terrorists," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi was quoted as saying.

Expressing concern over complication of the situation in Iraq, Asefi called on "different groups and sects in the country to confront with such criminal conspiracies by their awareness and unity."

Earlier in the day, three suicide bombers blew themselves up inside a Shiite mosque in the north of Baghdad, killing at least 50 and injuring 138 others.
