Expert: Two thirds of China's Mongolians descend from tribes ruled by Genghis Khan's brother HaSaer

Based on years' research, a noted Mongolian studies expert recently announced that two thirds of the people who claim Mongolian descent in China came from tribes governed by HaSaer, the brother of ancient Mongolian emperor Genghis Khan.

Jin Feng, also a professor in elite Normal University of north China's Inner Mongolia, told Xinhua that Genghis Khan, considered one of the greatest emperors and military minds in ancient Mongolia, was revered by all Mongolians today for his tremendous role in uniting the Mongolian confederations and providing a common identity to them.

Born in 1164 HaSaer was the second son of Gaici who was Genghis Khan's mother. HaSaer followed Genghis Khan and fought in the wars that help unite small Mongolian tribes to a nation. HaSaer died in 1226.

HaSaer was regarded by Mongolian as one of the greatest statesman and militarist in Mongolian history.

Official statistics show that today's Mongolian population in China is 5.8 million, and 3.7 million of them living in the regions once governed by HaSaer.

After Genghis became Khan, the emperor of Mongolia, in 1206 A.D, he granted large tracts of land to HaSaer.
