Britain's new anti-terror laws go into force
font size

Britain's new anti-terror laws come into force on Wednesday, making it illegal to glorify terrorism and distribute terrorist publications.

Those receiving or giving terrorism training, planning and preparing for terrorist acts are also deemed illegal by the Terrorism Act 2006, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported.

Under the act, nuclear sites become designated areas where trespass can become a terrorist offence.

The House of Lords, Britain's Upper House, had rejected the new clauses five times before passing them in March. But Prime Minister Tony Blair support the new measures drafted after the July 7 bombings in London.

Police powers to detain terrorist suspects up to 28 days without charge will also come into force later, said the report.
