Vietnamese party completes personnel schemes for next tenure

The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) on Saturday completed personnel schemes in the next tenure (10th tenure), and reports to be submitted to the approaching 10th national party congress, Vietnam's National Television reported.

After two days of working, the 15th meeting of the CPVCC approved a report on schemes about personnel of the committee and its Political Bureau in the 10th tenure, as well as the congress' presidium, the secretariat and the board for inspecting qualification of delegates, said the CPVCC General Secretary Nong Duc Manh at the meeting's closing ceremony.

He said the meeting also approved relevant political and economic documents to be submitted to the congress slated for April 18-25, and heard reports of relevant agencies about security preparations for the event, and a scandal at the Project Management Unit No.18 under the Transport Ministry.

Recently, local media reported the unit's general director was prosecuted for three charges, namely gambling, giving bribery, and intentionally acting counter to state regulations in economic management.

For their responsibility for or involvement in the scandal, transport minister Dao Dinh Binh, deputy transport minister Nguyen Viet Tien and deputy head of the General Directorate of Police Cao Ngoc Oanh have either voluntarily asked for being withdrawn from the list of delegates to the congress or been disqualified for the 8-day event.

The congress will elect the CPVCC with 185 expected members, including 160 official ones and 25 alternate ones, the secretariat with expected 11 members, and its political bureau with expected 15-17 members, Phan Dien, permanent secretary of the CPVCC and member of the Political Bureau, told reporters recently.

The congress will also focus on defining directions and measures for Vietnam's development in the fields of economy, politics, security, national defense and party construction between 2006 and 2010; amending some articles of the party's stature; reviewing five years of implementing resolutions of the previous congress, and drawing lessons in the country's renovation process since the 6th party congress, he said.
