Romanian authorities had closed down the last bird flu quarantine zone in the east of the country, local media reported on Friday.
The zone was located in Ialomita County's Grivita.
The first bird flu case in Romania was detected in the Danube delta in October 2005. Since then, the epidemic had spread to more regions of the country, bringing to 53 the number of restricted quarantine zones.
Thanks to preventive measures by Romanian authorities and local governments to stave off the spread of the epidemic, including disinfecting the quarantine zones and culling poultry, no cases of human infections have been reported in the country.
