Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee to have 185 members

The ongoing 10th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on Friday approved the number of members of its central committee, 185, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The congress agreed that the CPV Central Committee (CPVCC) in the 10th tenure will consist of 160 official members and 25 alternate ones. The CPVCC in the 9th tenure has introduced a list of 206 people aged 33-66 for the congress to elect the new committee.

The list includes 87 members of the CPVCC (the 9th tenure), 23 women, and 20 ethnic minority people.

The ingoing CPVCC must have firm political spirit, high leadership capacity and fighting spirit, and creative thinking, said Tran Dinh Hoan, head of the CPVCC Organization and Personnel Commission and member of the outgoing CPVCC's Political Bureau.

Those who commit one of the eight shortcomings, namely having infirm political spirit, violating the democracy concentration principle, having political opportunism and personal ambition, being responsible for serious internal disunity, making use of positions to become rich quickly, studying inactively, having bad discipline consciousness, and unclear political background, he said.

Members of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the ingoing CPVCC must be typical members of the ingoing committee. Generally speaking, members of the ingoing CPVCC are members of the outgoing CPVCC, who have well completed their tasks and had good health, the report said.

Also on Friday, the eight-day congress, starting on April 18, also approved the regulations for electing the new CPVCC, and heard the committee's reports on personnel issues.

The congress with participation of 1,176 party members is to mainly elect CPVCC general secretary, the CPVCC, and the Political Bureau (the 10th tenure), define orientations for Vietnam's socioeconomic development in the 2006-2010 period, and adopt the party's amended statute.
