Chinese citizens in Nepal warned to enhance self-protection
font size

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Sunday reminded Chinese citizens in Nepal of personal safety, and suggested Chinese tourists there to leave Nepal as soon as possible.

The foreign ministry called for the Chinese citizens in Nepal to enhance awareness of self-protection, given the unstable safety situation there. It also suggested nationals not to travel to Nepal if there is no special need.

The foreign ministry requested Chinese citizens to contact the Chinese embassy in Nepal in case of emergency, adding the telephone number is 009771-4411740, and cell phone numbers are 00977-9851071666, 9851071888, 9851050930, 9851034088.

Meanwhile, the China National Tourism Administration also urged the Chinese citizens not to travel to Nepal.

Nepali King Gyanendra announced Friday that he would give up political power to the people and asked the seven-party alliance to name a new prime minister.

The proclamation came after two-week-long nationwide general strike announced by seven opposition political parties and prolonged curfew in the capital Kathmandu by the government.

Following the King's announcement, the Nepali government declared to extend the curfew in the capital Kathmandu.
