Police destroy four cocaine labs in southeast Colombia
Colombia's anti-narcotics police have destroyed four cocaine manufacturing laboratories in the southeast region of Narino, officers said on Sunday. Police said 50 agents swooped from helicopters into the laboratory zone, where they found 203 kg of cocaine, 44 kg of cocaine base, 13 tons of drug production-related liquids and solids, 1.5 tons of coca leaf, 290 kg of chopped leaf and 2,800 coca plants, as well as various chemical equipment. But no arrests were made during the raid. Police officers also seized two pistols, a .22 caliber rifle with a telescopic sight and a further 28 kg of cocaine in a vehicle abandoned at the scene. They also found a stash of 175 kg of cocaine in another part of the laboratory zone. The four laboratories were linked by covert paths in the Colombian jungle, designed to evade detection from the air. The laboratories themselves were hidden under tall trees. Source: Xinhua |
