font size

MobileOne (M1), one of the three major telecom operators in Singapore, and MediaCorp Studios on Monday launched a Mobile Channel which enables M1's third generation (3G) service users to watch local television (TV) programs on their phones.

According to a Channel NewsAsia report, the TV programs in Mandarin or English, including drama serials and talk shows, are edited into "bite-sized" content to fit for mobile phone features.

Singapore commercially rolled out the 3G services in February last year and as many as 744,800 Singaporeans are expected to use 3G mobiles by 2009, accounting for about 20 percent of the country 's population.

Last November, Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) launched its "3G TV" mobile phone service to provide users with access to a video portal while StarHub started its i-mode mobile Internet service which also includes TV news websites.
