Alexander Guimaraes, head coach of Costa Rica's soccer team, said he had completed his squad for the Germany 2006 World Cup, local media reported on Monday.
The list includes two surprises -- midfielder Bryan Ruiz and defender Cristian Montero, playing for Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, a team which lost 2-1 on Saturday in the final of the country's local tournament against Saprissa.
"I am very happy," Montero told local television. "Truly, I did not expect it, but it was on my mind. Now I will consider things properly and make my best effort."
Ruiz had been boosting his level in local competition for some time, and was less of a surprise.
Liga is also contributing goalkeepr Wardy Alfaro, defenders Luis Marin, Harold Wallace and Michael Rodriguez and also winger Carlos Hernandez.
Guimaraes has called up the following Saprissa players: goalkeeper Jose Francisco Porras, defenders Jervis Drummond and Gabriel Badilla; midfielders Walter Centeno, Christian Bolanos and Randall Azofeifa; and forwards Ronald Gomez and Alvaro Saborio.
The players will be summed up for training on Tuesday at the Project Gol headquarters.
Costa Rica will play their first game in the World Cup against hosts Germany in Munich on June 9. Both teams are in the Cup's Group A, alongside Ecuador and Poland.
