Nepal to introduce new course for grade one
font size

Nepal is going to introduce a new curriculum for grade one of primary level from new academic session of Nepal, an official at Curriculum Development Center ( CDC) said in Kathmandu Tuesday.

"Most of the chapters of grade one would be changed but some of the contemporary chapters would remain as usual," Jaya Lamsal, curriculum officer at CDC under the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), told reporters.

Presently the CDC has introduced different subjects for the grade one like Nepali, English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Health and Creative Expressionism art.

One more additional subject would be introduced by the concerned schools commonly known as local subject.

CDC has added English subject from new academic session that starts from May, Lamsal noted, adding, "Prior to this, the office had not introduced English as a subject for grade one to three."

"We have introduced English as a compulsory subject in grade one, two and three to encourage students to converse in English apart from working out a curriculum parallel to that of the private institutions," Lamsal said.

The course has been changed according to the advice of the MoES. CDC has also planned to change the course gradually from grade two to grade five.

CDC had formulated or designed the old course of grade one before 15 years.

The enrollment in class one is 1.5 million across the country.
