Hundreds of ducks culled in Indonesia over bird flu fear

Authorities in Indonesia's resort island of Bali have culled nearly 400 ducks after they found bird flu infection in several ducks, an official said Tuesday.

"According to the examination, 16 of 392 ducks ... were tested positive of avian influenza," said Ketut Suarda, head of the provincial veterinary office.

"All ducks have been culled to minimize the risk," he was quoted by the national Antara news agency as saying.

He said the ducks were illegally transported from nearby Java island.

Indonesia has reported about 30 bird flu deaths, of which, the World Health Organization has confirmed 24.
