By the end of 2005, the China National Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) had filed 9,500 patent applications in China and 900 patent applications in 38 other countries.

Cao Xianghong, Sinopec's general engineer made the remarks in Beijing Wednesday at the China High-level Forum on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Protection.

Sinopec has been among the top ten Chinese companies for years in terms of both patent applications and authorized patents, he said.

Sinopec now owns more than 6,000 authorized patents home and abroad, and 1,186 registered brands, he said.

The company attaches great importance to technological innovation and IPR protection, and have asked its staff to use authorized software, he said.
