Insurgents Thursday attacked police stations in Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, killing at least six people, including four policemen, and wounding four others, a medical source told Xinhua.
"We have received four bodies of policemen and two of civilians, " a source from Baquba Hospital said on condition of anonymity.
Two policemen and two civilians were also wounded in the fierce clashes when insurgents waged a series of attacks against five police stations in several parts of the city, he added.
The unidentified gunmen launched their attacks shortly after midday with rocket-propelled grenades, mortar fire and machine- guns, he said.
Violence continues infesting Iraq despite Nuri al-Maliki was formally designated as the new prime minister on Saturday, ending a month-long political deadlock.
