China holds festival to celebrate 80th birthday of cartoon & animation industry

The second China International Cartoon and Animation Festival opened on Thursday in Hangzhou, capital of the eastern Zhejiang Province, as a grand celebration of the 80th birthday of China's cartoon and animation industry.

Cosponsored by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and Zhejiang provincial government, the week-long festival takes "cartoon and animation make life wonderful" as its theme.

According to the organizing committee, the festival is mainly composed of China international cartoon and animation industry exposition, a forum discussing the prospect the industry and a competition of the cartoon and animation works in China.

World famous cartoon producers from France, Japan, the United States, Hong Kong and Croatia are invited to the festival.

China produced its first cartoon movie in 1926 and the celebration of the 80th birthday of China's cartoon and animation industry will be an important part in the festival.

Chinese cartoon and animation works at different ages will be displayed on the festival and a cartoon character parade is also planned to be held in the festival.
