"King" LeBron James's 41 points including the winning layup with 5.7 seconds to play led the Cleveland Cavaliers to edge the Washington Wizards 97-96 in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference series Friday at the Verizon Center in Washington.
James, 21, shot 16-of-28 from the filed and set a record for most points by a player in his first road playoff game on his way to giving the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
It also marked the Cavs' first playoff road win in almost 11 years when the team topped the New York Knicks on April 29, 1995 in Game 2 of a first-roud series.
Guard Gilbert Arenas scored a three-point play with 23.4 seconds left to gave the Wizards a 96-95 lead. James, however, responded with a lay-up in heavy traffic for the game winner.
James also added five rebounds and three assists. Teammates Larry Hughes contributed to 16 and Zydrunas Ilgauskas 15.
Arenas scored 34 points to pace the Wizards while Caron Butler added 20 points and 11 rebounds.
The Wizards led half-time with 58-50 but were held to a 71-71 after scoring only 13 points in the third quarter.
Game 4 set on Sunday at the Verizon Center.
