Russia urges Iran to suspend uranium enrichment

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki to suspend enriching uranium and cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA), Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

"We called on Iran once again to take concrete steps towards restoring trust to its nuclear activities," the ministry was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.

Primarily, Iran should "suspend enriching uranium and develop comprehensive cooperation with the IAEA in order to clarify the remaining issues related to Iran's nuclear program," the ministry said.

According to the ministry, Lavrov had a telephone conversation with the Iranian colleague on Saturday to discuss this issue.

The foreign ministers of the two countries discussed Iran's nuclear program in light of the report by IAEA Director General Mohammad ElBaradei submitted to the UN Security Council on Friday.
