U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Sunday that Iran was just "playing games" by offering to allow inspections if the United Nations Security Council would turn the dispute over to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"I think they're playing games. Obviously if they're not they should come clean, stop the enrichment, suspend the enrichment and answer the list of demands in the IAEA board of governors resolution and statement of the Security Council," Rice said in an interview with the ABC.
Rice also dismissed Iran's offer to reopen discussions on a Russian proposal to conduct uranium enrichment work for Teheran.
Iran offered on Saturday to allow intrusive inspections if the United Nations Security Council would turn its nuclear case over to the IAEA, whose report on Friday declared Iran in noncompliance with a United Nations Security Council deadline to suspend the enrichment work.
The United States has called on the United Nations Security Council to impose sanctions on Iran for its noncompliance. Iran has said that its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only.
