font size

U.S. troops shot dead an Iraqi ambulance driver who failed to stop near the scene where a U.S. patrol hit a roadside bomb in central Baghdad on Tuesday, an Iraqi Interior Ministry source said.

"A roadside bomb went off near a U.S. patrol at about 9:30 a.m. (0530 GMT) near the Turkish embassy in Waziriya district, prompting the U.S. troops to seal off the area," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

"An Iraqi ambulance was rushing toward the scene but failed to stop near the U.S. troops, who then shot the driver dead," the source added.

There was no immediate confirmation from the U.S. military concerning the incident.
