Afghan President Hamid Karzai swore in 21 members of his new cabinet in Kabul on Tuesday.

Witnessed by government officials and parliamentarians, the new ministers took the oath of office to serve the war-ravaged nation honestly.

The new cabinet has 26 members including a senior minister.

The senior minister is a symbolic post given to Amin Arsala, the commerce minister in the provisional cabinet, and he would act as advisor to the President in his daily engagement.

However, the Wolesi Jirga did not approve the portfolio of senior minister and did not give vote of confidence to Arsala.

Members of the Wolesi Jirga or National Assembly have given vote of confidence to 17 members of 26 minister nominees proposed by President Karzai last month while utterly rejected five others.

The parliament was also divided over the ministers for Rural Development, Refugees' Repatriation and Communication two weeks ago and the Supreme Court by confirming their legality ended the chaos last week.

To complete the cabinet lineup, President Karzai has to introduce five new faces to the Wolesi Jirga within few days.
