A U.S. soldier was killed on Friday in a bomb attack in Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Saturday.

"A U.S. Army Soldier was killed on Friday when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device," the military said in a brief statement.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement added.

The latest death has brought to over 2,410 the number of U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
