font size

Argentina coach Jose Pekerman Friday named a 16-man World Cup pre-squad with only one player coming from domestic league.

Except goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri who plays for Argentine first division side Boca Juniors, the other 15 players all ply their trade in Europe.

The 16 players will train in Spain next week with the final 23-man squad to be named by the FIFA deadline on May 15.

Argentina will play the Netherlands, Serbia-Montenegro and Cote D'Ivoire in Group C of the World Cup, which will take place from June 9 to July 9.
