The U.S. air force's attack on the suspected hideout of militants left four suspected Taliban fighters dead on Monday, a press release of the U.S.-led coalition troops received Tuesday said.

"During a successful air strike Monday, Coalition aircraft killed four enemy extremists in the Bermel district of Paktika province," the press release said.

A truck and cave complex of the militants were also destroyed during the attack, the news release said.

It also said that the militants opened fire on the coalition's patrol team near the cave complex and prompted the coalition troops to arrest one combatant.

Taliban has yet to make any comment on the subject.

Like the southern region the provinces of Paktika, Paktia and Khost in southeast Afghanistan are considered the hotbed of Taliban as hundreds of the fundamentalist movement's loyalists including the former regime's chief of army staff Mawlawi Jalaludin Haqani are believed to have hidden there.

Over 300 people including 25 American soldiers have lost their lives in Taliban-linked militancy since the beginning of this year.
