Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat hailed on Wednesday a decision made by the Quartet to resume financial aid to the Palestinians.
"We heard the Quartet calling on Israel to stop holding Palestinian money and to stop obstructing food, fuel and medicine movement into the Palestinian territories," Erekat told Voice of Palestine radio in Ramallah.
The Quartet comprising the United States, the European Union, Russia, and the United Nations, convened in New York on Tuesday and agreed on a "temporary international mechanism" to resume financial aid to the Palestinians.
"We would wait to see the essence of that mechanism and the nature of aid, but the most essential thing is delivering it," Erekat said.
Following the formation of the Hamas-led government in late March, a fiscal crisis occurred and deepened in the wake of Western aid suspension due to Hamas refusal to recognize Israel and renounce violence.
About 165,000 government employees have been delayed their salaries for March and April.
