Kahn may carry on playing for Germany after World Cup

German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn suggested on Wednesday that he might carry on playing for the national team after next month's World Cup finals.

"Most people probably expect me to stop at 37 but I am not thinking about that at the moment,"said Kahn, who will turn 37 during the tournament, due from June 9 to July 9 in Germany.

"Why should I quit if I am in good shape and I am still highly motivated? "he told magazine SportBild.

"Anything is possible and as I said I could still be in goal at 40."

The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has been capped 84 times and helped Germany reach the 2002 World Cup final.

After he was demoted to second-choice goalkeeper by coach Juergen Klinsmann, Kahn said he would accept the role and take part at the World Cup.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, however, said that Kahn will retire from the national team after the World Cup and focus on club football.

"After the World Cup, he will quit the national team and concentrate fully on Bayern Munich,"Rummenigge told Bild newspaper on Wednesday.
