German Chancellor Angela Merkel and visiting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said on Wednesday that all ways should be tried to find a diplomatic solution to the Iran nuclear issue.
The two leaders made the remarks at a joint press conference after their talks, in which they also focused on the Palestinian issue.
During their talks, they agreed that the Hamas should recognize the existence right of Israel.
Merkel also stressed the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories should also be addressed.
Israel, the United States and the European Union ceased aids to the Palestinian people as the Hamas government refused to recognize the existence right of Israel.
But on Tuesday, the international quartet -- the United Nations, the U.S., Russia and Israel, agreed to set up a mechanism to channel aid to the cash-starved Palestinian Authority bypassing the Hamas-led government.
Mubarak is paying a two-day visit here and will open an exhibition of Egyptian archaeological treasures with German President Horst Koehler on Thursday.
He visited Germany on March 12, talking with Merkel on Iran's nuclear issues and the situation in the Middle East.
"Egypt plays an important role in the region," said deputy government spokesman Thomas Steg before the two leaders met Wednesday.
