UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Friday called for instant cease-fire in Somalia.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Annan said he is deeply concerned at recent reports of increasing violence in Mogadishu, which has caused the deaths of over a hundred people and the displacement of thousands of noncombatants.
The secretary-general called on the warring factions to cease fire immediately, and urged all parties to support the Transitional Federal Institutions in their effort to implement the Transitional Charter.
The latest flare-up in fighting between Islamic militia and a self-styled "anti-terrorism" alliance of warlords in the Somali capital Mogadishu is reported to have claimed more than 100 lives as the city entered its fifth day of violence.
