Spain's Basque separatist group ETA, which recently announced a ceasefire, has said that it still sticks to self-determination for a Basque country, asking the government to move to the negotiation table, a local newspaper reported Sunday.

"Self-determination and territoriality" are the key conditions to end the conflict, ETA said in a recent interview carried by the daily Gara.

For nearly 40 years, ETA has been fighting for an independent Basque country in northern Spain and southern France. More than 800 people have died in the past conflicts.

Apart from urging the Spanish government to make commitment to negotiation to end the confrontation, ETA also called for an amnesty for hundreds of ETA members who have been imprisoned.

Previous truces were broken by ETA, but the ongoing ceasefire pledged by the group has been in force since March 24.

The Spanish government has expressed welcome to ETA's ceasefire pledge, but said it would not hold talks with the separatist group unless the latter makes good its ceasefire promise.
