Russia urges Palestinian forces to abandon confrontation
font size

Russia Foreign Ministery on Friday urged all Palestinian political forces to abandon confrontation and pool efforts to strengthen internal security.

"This will allow fulfilling the tasks to establish the effective work of the Palestinian authorities and will support the efforts of the world community to render aid to the Palestinian people and resume the Palestinian-Israeli peaceful process," the ministry said in a statement.

"The vector of this dialogue should be aimed at working out such political platform that would meet the requirements of the Road Map peace plan and the Quartet of international mediators and would allow resuming the negotiating process with Israel," the Foreign Ministry said.

Periodical clashes have occurred between armed members of some Palestinian groups and some law enforcement agencies in the Gaza Strip since late April. The efforts made by the Palestinian authorities to normalize the situation have not yielded the desired results yet.
