Nepali Deputy Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has said that the Nepali government was ready to work with the United Nations (UN) and other international institutions for peaceful settlement of the anti-government guerrillas problem, state-run Radio Nepal reported Saturday.
"The Nepali government was for general and complete disarmament under effective international control and is ready to work with the UN and other international institutions for peaceful settlement of the guerrilla's problem," the radio quoted Oli, who is also Foreign Minister, as saying.
"As the dialogue between the government and the guerrillas moves forward, at that specific moment, we may feel the need of some sort of international engagement," Oli said.
Oli made the remarks while briefing the heads of diplomatic missions here on the kingdom's current political situation as well as foreign policy priorities at the Foreign Ministry office Friday.
Oli also ruled out the possibility of inducting the guerrillas in the government before arms management and urged the guerrillas to renounce violence and join the political mainstream.
"Time has come for the guerrillas to prove their sincerity by translating words into action and the people also expect them to be sincere," he said.
