Ugandan teams SC Villa and Police FC have qualified for the quarter-finals of the regional Council for East and central African Football Associations (Cecafa)/Kagame Club Championship Cup currently going on in Tanzania.

The defending champions beat Eritrea's Al Tahrir 2-1 to qualify from Group C, while Police lost 2-1 to Tanzania's 2-1 but finished third and made it to the last eight after their two wins in Group B.

Nordin Bakari scored for home side Simba in the 55th minute, and six minuets later Sio Zinapio's made it 2-0 for Simba before Siraje Sevume got the consolation goal for Police.

However, the earlier game that Rwanda's APR had won 2-1 against El-Hilal Port Sudan had already determined that Police and Simba also qualify for the last eight.

The Rwandan team kept a 100% record to finish with 12 points from four games. Ugandan players Abubaker Tabula and Vincent Kayiizi scored for APR, while Saleh Awad had given El-Hilal a surprise lead.

In Morogoro battleground, Jeremiah Ssebuyira (45th) and Steven Bengo (69th) scored to make sure the defending champions qualified for the last eight. Abdo Ibrahim netted for Al Tahrir in the 89th minute.

The preliminary round ended on Saturday with three matches on card before the quarter-finals start on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam. The winner of the tournament that ends on May 28 will bag 30,000 U.S. dollars, the runner-up 20,000 dollars and the third placed 10, 000 dollars.
