No proposal to bring Egyptian forces to Gaza: officials
font size

The Fatah movement and the radical Hamas group denied on Tuesday reports that a Palestinian proposal has been made to ask Egypt to deploy its troops in Gaza to help end fighting between the two rival factions.

Fatah spokesman Maher Meqdad ruled out the possibility of making such a proposal, saying that it would not be a practical solution.

"I don't know the source about the proposal," he told reporters, adding "our people are able to go beyond the crisis despite wounds they sustain."

The reports appeared after a series of battles between Hamas militants and Fatah loyalists.

Meanwhile, Hamas legislator Ahmed Abu Halabiya denied the reports, saying "we don't have any information about the reports."

He said that the press has exaggerated the conflict, and any deployment of Egyptian troops in Gaza needs an in-depth study rather than a shallow one.
