font size

A total of 41,342 persons in Germany died from diseases which were linked to the consumption of tobacco products in 2004, the Federal Statistics Office said on Monday.

About 39,700 people died of lung cancer, 1,500 died of laryngeal cancer and 48 died of tracheal cancer. All the three diseases are considered to be diseases resulting from smoking.

An increase in those causes of death can be observed compared with the year 1984,when 33,589 or close to 4 percent of all deaths were due to the three diseases.
