Iran sends condolences to Indonesia over quake

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent a message to his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Sunday to express his condolences to victims in Saturday's deadly earthquake in Indonesia.

In the message, Ahmadinejad also expressed his sympathy to bereaved families of victims in the quake.

The president hoped that the quick-stricken areas in Indonesia could be reconstructed as soon as possible through great efforts of the Indonesian government and people as well as assistances from all over the world, according to the message.

A powerful earthquake, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit Yogyakarta in central Java, Indonesia, early on Saturday morning, killing more than 3,000 people and wounding thousands of others.
