Chinese Hu takes gold medal with luck in junior worlds

Chinese novice Hu Ting won the gold medal in the World Junior Weightlifting Championships due to the inexplicable mistake from his opponent Iranwan Triyatno of Indonesia in HANGZHOU£¬ east China on Monday.

In the men's 62kg category competition, Triyatno lifted 162kg in his third attempt in the jerk, standing steadily. However, he then suddenly stumbled forward on the stage and loosed the barbell, failing to win the gold medal.

The 19-year-old Hu jerked 157kg and finished with a total of 291kg to take the gold at last, three kilos more than Triyatno's result, who won the bronze medal at 288kg due to the bodyweight disadvantage to Sergey Petrosyan of Russia.

"The gold medal flew away and then came back. I am quite lucky today," Hu said excitedly after the competition.

"It is an interesting experience for me and I am going to train harder to have a better result in the future," Hu added.
