font size

The Vietnamese investigation agency has prosecuted 25 local people including a traffic policeman for gambling and organizing gambling, local newspaper Young People reported Friday.

Major Nguyen Hoang Son from the Traffic Police Bureau under the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department and seven others were prosecuted on Thursday for organizing cock fighting for bet, and 17 others for betting on cockfights.

Son was suspended from his post just after he and some 30 others were arrested at his house on May 19 as they were organizing and betting on cock fighting.

According to the agency, Son often organized the game at his house in Ho Chi Minh City with bets of dozens of millions Vietnamese dong, or thousands of U.S. dollars each fight.

All kinds of gambling, except for casinos designated for foreigners and overseas Vietnamese, are banned in Vietnam.
