US Senate to vote on Marriage Protection Amendment
font size

About 100 people walked across Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday to show their support of same-sex marriages as time draws near for the US Senate to vote on the Marriage Protection Amendment.

The US Senate plans to vote on the amendment next week, but it is expected to fall well short of the required two-thirds majority it needs to pass. In case it is passed, the measure would amend the Constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and woman.

US President George W. Bush urged Congress to support the constitutional amendment. He said the traditional definition of marriage between a man and a woman is being attacked by activist judges who have overridden state legislatures and outlined a constitutional right in same-sex marriage.
