EU, US make use of dual standards on trade with China
font size

China Youth Daily on Sunday criticized the EU and the US of imposing dual standards on dealing with trade issues with China.

It says that the EU and the US adopted policy of surrogate country to Chinese products and harsh standards of China's market economy status, which violated the WTO principle of free and fair trade.

Anti-dumping measures taken by European countries and US are not in the interest of China, neither are they in the interest of European countries and the US.

It is unfair that EU and US decide whether dumping has occurred on China's export by more severe conditions such as surrogate country instead of the general rules of WTO.

The idea of surrogate countries is specially designed to define dumping cases concerning non-market economic countries. The EU and US choose a more developed country as a surrogate of the normal value when they launch a dumping probe into Chinese products.

In addition, the EU and the US make use of the standards of market economy to constrain China. Refusing to recognize the status of market economy of Chinese companies, the EU argued that the companies sold part of their products to the government and their land belongs to the government. They also insisted that some state-owned enterprises cannot prove they are free from the control of China's macro system.

Actually, even companies in the EU countries can hardly meet the standards fully. Obviously, EU makes use of dual standards to restrict China.

The article finally urged the EU and the US to remove the unfair elements in their anti-dumping law and seek right solutions to the imbalanced trade with China instead of taking arbitrary anti-dumping measures.
